Claim your psychologist visit

Clinics in McKinnon, Fitzroy and Camberwell

We provide you the convenience of claiming private health insurance benefits via HICAPS, on the spot at our practices. Here we answer some of the more common queries from our clients.

Can I claim psychology sessions from my private health insurer?

You may be eligible to claim psychological services from your Private Health insurer depending on your level of cover. To claim a rebate you need to ensure that you are covered by ancillary benefits insurance (extras).

How much will I get back from my private health insurer for counselling services?

The rebate you will receive will be based on your level of cover. It is advised that you contact your insurer to confirm your eligibility.

How do I claim for an appointment with a psychologist?

At Reflection Psychology Group we offer a HICAPS service (Health Industry Claims and Payments Service) which means that after your psychology session, your health fund card is simply swiped through the HICAPS terminal and your claim is automatically processed.

Can I claim if my child for my child to see a child psychologist?

All private health insurance claims depend on your insurance coverage. If you have family cover your child is probably eligible.

Do I need to pay the full amount for counselling before I can claim?

If you use the HICAPS service, you do not need to pay the full consultation fee up-front and wait for the reimbursement (unlike if you choose to take your account to your health fund branch). Once your claim is authorised by your health fund through the HICAPS terminal, you simply pay the gap amount, which is the difference between the full psychology session fee and the rebate your health insurer covers.

How do I pay for the services of your counsellors?

You may use cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit accounts.

Can I claim for my therapist if my health fund card does not have a magnetic strip?

You could possibly be using an old health insurance card, or alternatively your health fund may not be linked with HICAPS. It is advised that you contact your insurer.

Can I use both my private health insurance cover and Medicare for seeing a clinical psychologist?

You cannot use your private health insurance cover to top up the Medicare rebates for psychological services. If you are eligible for Medicare rebates then you need to decide which service you will use to cover the payment for psychological services you receive.
