Qualifications / Training

Kelly is a fully registered Clinical Psychologist, with a specialisation in the area of Health Psychology. Her level of expertise has lead her to receiving clinical endorsement with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) and obtaining membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Kelly is a psychology board approved supervisor of provisional psychologists undertaking post-graduate training, as well as clinical psychology registrars. She is available to provide supervision services to registered psychologists.

Experience / Area of Expertise

Kelly has over seven years’ experience working in both hospital settings and private practice. She holds expertise in providing interventions to assist adolescents, adults and older adults in managing a range of mental health issues including:

  • Depression / anxiety
  • Trauma / PTSD
  • Grief / bereavement
  • Personality disorders
  • Drug and alcohol use
  • Low self-esteem
  • Life transition and adjustment
  • Eating disorders

Kelly holds expertise in the area of Health Psychology and Psycho-Oncology. She has extensive experience in psychological assessment and intervention for patients with a cancer diagnosis and providing support to their families, with specific skills in addressing end of life issues, bereavement, sexual concerns, living with uncertainty and fear of recurrence. Kelly’s Doctoral research on psychological factors and physical activity during treatment for prostate cancer has been published in a number of reputable journals and presented at conferences both Nationally and Internationally. Kelly has also developed specialised skills in interventions to assist clients in managing persistent pain, having been involved in hospital-based pain management programs. Over the past two years, Kelly has provided support to patients and families living with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). She has developed specific skills in managing behaviours of concern, dealing with complex trauma, and complicated grief, loss and adjustment. Through her ABI work, Kelly has developed interest and experience in working with adolescents using an integrated approach by collaborating with the client, parents and schools to achieve best treatment outcomes.

Kelly has a strong interest and experience in Sports Psychology. Training as an elite level gymnast and competing both nationally and internationally at a young age, Kelly has a personal insight into the emotional, physical and social demands of elite level sport. Kelly is particularly passionate about supporting athletes in the transition out of their sporting career. Her psychology honours thesis examined the impact of athletic retirement on mental health and wellbeing and identified risk factors that predispose athletes to psychological trauma and substance abuse in the transition into and out of sport. Kelly sees herself as a Performance Psychologist, with a strong desire to enhance the performance of her clients in whatever it is they are doing, be it sport, work, school or study.

Therapeutic Approach

Kelly is passionate about providing patient-centred care and tailoring treatment to suit individual needs and preferences. Kelly has a caring, supportive and collaborative approach, understanding that the therapeutic relationship and trust is central to achieving client goals. She places a high importance on increasing support for clients and will liaise with other treating professionals and services if required to maximise treatment outcomes.

Kelly draws on a variety of evidence-based methods in tailoring treatment for clients including: Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Mindfulness; Solution Focused Therapy; Positive Psychology; Schema Therapy; Emotion Focused Therapy; and Neuropsychotherapy. She has a particular interest in the neuroscience of pain, anxiety and mood disturbance and promotes understanding of these biological mechanisms in her work with clients.

Kelly’s clients would describe her as being highly engaging and extremely insightful. Kelly works in our Camberwell location on a Monday from 11am-7pm and in our McKinnon location on a Friday from 9:30am-6pm.
