Michael Hines is a registered psychologist with a four-year degree in psychology from the University of New England and Monash University. He is trained in the evidenced-based models of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He has also had training in clinical hypnotherapy and training at the Black Dog Institute for facilitating group programs for people diagnosed with bipolar and depression.
Michael has a special interest in proactive, preventative mental health strategies, as drawn from the emergent theory, research and evidenced-based practice of Positive Psychology – the science of optimal functioning. His expertise in this initially developed through his honours thesis and research on subjective well-being (more commonly known as happiness). Michael is of the belief that mental health is more than merely the absence of mental illness, much like physical health is more than the absence of disease. As such, he aims to equip his clients with the skills and strategies to proactively stay on top of their mental health and prevent relapse.
Michael is also passionate about the physical, psychological and social benefits of mindfulness – an interest stemming from a personal meditation practice spanning 15 years.
Michael’s clients would describe him as being both insightful and easy to talk to
Michael is available for appointments in our Camberwell location on Tuesdays and Thursdays (1pm-9pm) and Saturday mornings.
