Mind-wandering appears to be the brain’s default mode, however according to recent research, mind-wandering is a bigger predictor of unhappiness than our actual experiences themselves. The practice of mindfulness has been shown to be an effective way to combat this mind-wandering and shifting it rather to focusing our attention on the present moment.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mental state of awareness that involves paying attention to the present moment with openness and flexibility. Mindfulness is a skill that can be developed through practice; meditation is just one way amongst many of cultivating mindfulness.

Reflection Psychology Group’s Mindfulness 101 workshop

Our psychologists have developed the highly enjoyable and effective Mindfulness 101 workshop program. This is a six-week group program of two hours per evening session in which a psychologist helps participants develop the psychological skill of mindfulness. The focus of this workshop is on its strong emphasis on practical applications of mindfulness in everyday life. Through hands-on practice, this course will invite you to engage with the group, whilst developing mindful awareness for use in your day-to-day life.

With a referral from your GP, the total price of the therapist-led Mindfulness 101 course is $390 however concession rates are available for health care card holders. This price includes extensive learning materials. Rebates are also accessible through some private health insurers, provided your level of cover includes psychologists.
