Referral hub

The GP referral hub at Reflection Psychology supports general practitioners and medical professionals in connecting patients with timely and effective psychological care. With physical clinics in Camberwell and McKinnon and telehealth appointments, we offer flexible options for patients referred under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP).

How Mental Health Treatment Plans work

A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) allows eligible patients to access Medicare-rebated psychological services. These plans are typically prepared by a GP or Prescribed Medical Practitioner and outline a patient’s mental health concerns and proposed treatment goals.

When completing an MHTP, practitioners should include:

  • patient details and history
  • current mental health symptoms
  • relevant diagnoses or risk factors
  • goals for psychological support
  • recommended treatment interventions

Once the MHTP is created, a written referral can be issued to a psychologist of the patient’s choice. Our team at Reflection Psychology is available to assist GPs in identifying the most suitable practitioner from our team, based on clinical needs and availability.

Referring to Reflection Psychology

We accept referrals via fax, email or post. Patients can be referred for up to 10 sessions of individual therapy per calendar year. Following the initial six sessions, a MHTP review is required for access to the remaining four. Our team ensures referring GPs receive updates and written reports (with patient consent) after key treatment milestones.

Accessibility and locations

We offer in-person services from:

  • Camberwell clinic — centrally located and suited to a range of clinical presentations
  • McKinnon clinic — providing comprehensive counselling and assessment services
  • Telehealth consultations – enabling patients across Victoria to access support from home or work, particularly those in rural, regional or time-restricted situations.

Working collaboratively with GPs

Reflection Psychology is committed to shared care. We understand the importance of continuity between a patient’s medical and psychological treatment and maintain communication with referring practitioners throughout the therapeutic process.

Our team supports a stepped care model, offering services suited to a wide range of clinical needs, from short-term intervention to more complex care plans. For GPs needing support determining the right pathway, we’re available to discuss referrals and treatment planning options. Contact us for more information.
