Angie Collins

Psychologist

Angie is a registered psychologist with AHPRA and has a Master of Psychology. She also has a Certificate of Counselling and Psychotherapy, is an Accredited Triple P-Positive Parenting Provider, and has had over 15 years’ experience working in the field of mental health.

Angie takes a holistic approach to her work and draws on a range of evidence-based psychological interventions which are tailored to the needs of the individual client. These include: Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution- Focussed Therapy, and Mindfulness. She works with adolescents, adults, and families, and has experience counselling a diverse range of clients within the private and public mental health settings, schools and hospitals. Angie believes that the relationship between herself and the client is the most important element for facilitating healing, growth and change.

Angie has become increasingly aware of the connection between both the mind and the body in the treatment of mental health. For example, she often hears her clients say “intellectually I get it and can challenge my unhelpful thoughts, however I don’t feel the change in my body.” Thus, Angie incorporates somatic approaches into her therapeutic work which are used to draw out emotions and bodily sensations to help heal the body and not just the mind. One approach she often uses is Imagery Rescripting, an experiential technique associated with Schema Therapy that works with client’s subconscious side rather than their intellectual side. It involves addressing the client’s unhelpful and traumatic memories of past experiences connected to present problems, thus healing the trauma within the body.

However first and foremost Angie strives to develop a safe and trusting environment and relationship with her clients. She does this by actively listening to their concerns, and bringing a warm, authentic, supportive and intuitive approach to counselling.
